The Creator so far

I have been modelling the Creator and this is the stage I am at so far. He is pretty much just needing the final touches before I sculpt him in Mudbox to get all those old man wrinkles in. The hair on his head and face are just place holders just now until we get the maya hair on him. I am really happy with how he is going so far and can not wait to rig and animate him.

Six edit and rig so far

I had to make some minor edits to the Six model from the original. I moved the front tube so it inserts straight into his face to make it different to the other side. I also had to re-model the front panel so the battery had a place to sit at the front. I have also started to rig the model. Sometimes with Robots you can rig them by just parenting the geometry correctly but for the pipes to move correctly with the body I had to use bones. Setting up the pipes was a bit tricky as they liked to be erratic depending on the way you parent the components together. I still have to set up set driven keys for the pistons and and the controllers then it should be ready for testing.

Bug "Harlequin Paint" Shader

Got a nearly complete bug model from Jack earlier in the week. We talked about it having a wierd metallic paint look to its shell.

Been messing around with shaders in Maya. Best results came from the mia_car_paint material so far. Seems to have been made for this.

Gonna start a skin shader now, I'll be getting back to this once Jack finished the model.

Robot Texture Test

A quick texture test I made to check the UVs were working. Forgive the lighting, it's pretty poor.

Hand Finished

This is as good as I can get it for now. There's some problems with the mesh that I missed before taking it into mudbox that I don't have time to work out how to fix for now :/

With some clever posing we can hide those for the required shot anyway, plus its a still shot so we wont have to worry about large movements.

Robot Modelling Update

Another robot modelling update. In this stage I have added in the main tubes that run power through the limbs. The poly count is above the 25, 000 mark now but still below 30,000. Just a few more small things to add then he is ready for uving and texturing.

Hand wip

Hand we are planning to use in the alien vulture scene. Still loads of things to change on it but I finally fixed most of the issues on the displacement map.

Robot Modelling Update

Another modelling update for the robot. At this stage I am really close to finishing. I just have a few things to put in such as the control box in his torso and the wires. I also have a few tweaks to make to shape in the torso as the smooth made these all fit nice but as I am not using the smooth anymore I need to fix them. The poly count is 23,270 at his stage so might still struggle for a 25, 000 max.

Robot Modelling update

Here is another update to how the robot modelling is going. I have built it with smoothing in mind but the poly count is climbing so smoothing might be an issue. I can just take out some of the edges I have put in where I want the smooth to stay hard edged and then bevel the edges. This should allow me to keep the count down and add some more in places that really need them.
